These photos were taken in the butterfly garden of small costa rica. Klein Costa Rica, the most special tropical butterfly garden in Brabant, is located in the middle of the horticultural area of Someren. Here you can experience the wonderful beauty of the tropics on more than 880m2. More than 400 colored butterflies flutter around. Butterfly dolls from Costa Rica and the Philippines come to Klein Costa Rica every week. After the long journey, these dolls are hung in the “Puppet Show” where they can develop into a beautiful butterfly.

The Atlas Butterfly.
With a wingspan of 30 centimeters, the Attacus atlas, also called Atlas butterfly, is the largest butterfly in the world. The butterfly does not have a roller tongue and therefore cannot absorb food. After emerging, he is only concerned with reproduction and then he dies. It only lives as a butterfly for ten days. The Atlas butterfly is a nocturnal butterfly and rests during the day.


The Graphium agememnon .
The Graphium agamemnon is a restless kite that moves its wings constantly, even when it sucks nectar from a flower. The butterfly is native to parts of Asia and Australia, where the Graphium agamemnon prefers to fly among the treetops of the jungle. They descend only to visit nectar flowers such as the lantana, ixora or mussaenda.


Hebomoia glaucippe malay
The black and orange wing tips of the Hebomoia glaucippe contrast with its bright white body. The pale butterfly body is also a striking appearance for enemies. To avoid the attention of predators, this butterfly closes its wings to appear as a barren leaf hanging from a tree branch. The wingspan of the Hebomoia glaucippe is 10 centimeters. This makes this butterfly the largest butterfly in the white family.


The Heliconius charithonia
The butterflies spend the night in groups of twenty to thirty in a fixed place. During the day, the Heliconius charithonia is protected by the substances that have been eaten as a caterpillar and are poisonous to many birds. A bird that makes a mistake will not easily repeat this. In addition, it is difficult to see which way a Heliconius charithonia is flying up due to the color pattern.


The Heliconius erato
The Heliconius erato is a butterfly that occurs naturally in Mexico up to the Amazon region. The stage of a caterpillar lasts two to three weeks and in this short period the caterpillar eats as much as it can. After pupation, it takes eight to 12 days for the adult butterfly to emerge from the pupa.


The Heliconius hecale
Chances are you will spot this butterfly in Central America. The Heliconius hecale does not place high demands on its life pattern. It flies in open areas as well as tropical rainforests, deposits its eggs on all passion flowers and loves the nectar from many flowers. In addition, the Heliconius hecale is a good flyer.


The Idea leuconoe
The Idea leuconoe, better known as the paper butterfly, is a very large butterfly. Its wings have a wingspan of six inches. Due to the large wing area with few flight muscles, the Idea leuconoe has a slow wing beat. After a few wing beats, this butterfly will glide through the air. You would think an easy prey for predators. But the paper butterfly need not be afraid of that. The caterpillar of this butterfly feasts on the frederik flower, a poisonous plant. As a result, the butterfly also carries toxic substances. The robbers prefer to let this meal fly.


The Papilio demodocus
Papilio demodocus is a large swallowtail butterfly common to Sub-Saharan Africa. After hatching, the caterpillar feeds for pupation with a few leaves on citrus trees. They live about three generations per year. Eggs are placed individually on citrus tree leaves. Adult butterflies have black and yellow markings with red and blue eye spots. Female butterflies are usually larger than males.
