Pintails

The PC web version contains extensive information about places and butterflies

The Hummingbird Butterfly

Front wing length 20-24 mm. This pintail, because of the way it flies quickly from flower to flower and stands still in flight, looks a lot like a hummingbird. In flight, the orange-brown color of the rear wing and the underside of the front wing is clearly visible. The top of the forewings, head, thorax and much of the abdomen are warm brown with a grayish tint.

The flight time is from February to November. Most observations are made in August and September. In recent years, this species has also been spotted occasionally in early spring.

The scallop pintail

This butterfly is rare. A species that is found all over the country. Front wing length: 34-38 mm. A dark olive green pintail with a light, slightly yellowish, diagonal trajectory, the shoots never touching the leading edge. On the forewings, the veins are usually faintly visible as dark thin lines.

The flight time is from the end of April to September in two generations; the second generation is partial. The butterflies fly from dusk, visit flowers and light up.
