The Little Fire Butterfly

The male is often seen sunning. This restless butterfly is always ready to take on other males invading its sunny territory. The species is spread across the Netherlands, but rarely in large numbers. These species are seen in fairly open and mostly dry areas. The butterfly flies in three generations from the end of April to the end of October.

The male is usually smaller and has more pointed wings than the female. Sometimes the females appear with small blue spots on the top of the rear wing. Some albino butterflies are seen every year.
