The Field Pearloid

In 1995 the field pearly moth disappeared from the Netherlands. wanderers were occasionally seen, and a population has been present on the Bemelerberg since 2008. In recent years, there have also been more and more establishments in other places in South Limburg. In 2013, the species also settled here in North Brabant.

The field fritillary flies in a generation from mid-May to the end of June. Depending on the weather, a partial second generation sometimes appears in August.

The Emperor's Mantle

The Emperor's Mantle was rare in the 1990s, but now appears to be slowly recovering from a significant decline. Hundreds of Emperor's mantles, often only one individual at a time, have been scattered throughout the past few years, including in gardens. Due to its roaming behavior it is not easy to determine populations. They occur in forest edges, clearing plains and wide forest paths with herbaceous fringes.

The butterflies fly in a generation from the end of June to the beginning of September.

The Little Pearly Butterfly

The lesser fritillary is a local species and can occur locally in high numbers. This mobile butterfly is mainly found in the dunes but also in open dry warm grasslands.

The butterflies fly in overlapping generations from April to the end of October.

The density of butterflies is quite high to high, ten to 50 butterflies per hectare. The butterflies feed on various nectar plants, often violets. Later in the season, they mainly get nectar from higher herbs such as royalwort and snakewort.
